Google Developer Day India, 2008

I was in Bangalore this weekend to attend the first edition of Google Developer Day 2008 held in India. Event venue was Hotel Chancery Pavilion, Bangalore. The Google India team had put together an exciting bouquet of Tech Talk Tracks and associated Codelabs sessions covering popular developer APIs like Google Maps APIS to fresh platforms like OpenSocial and Appengine.
The entire day focussed on six Google technologies.
- Google Maps API
- Google Appengine
- Google Web Toolkit - GWT
- Google Desktop
- Indic
- OpenSocial
Overall, the depth of technical talks was medium and not too advanced, but that’s okay since there’s only limited time for actually implementing those things in codelabs sessions. In Codelabs sessions there were Google engineers interacting with delegates and helping them out in running stuff on their own machines.
In its first edition of GDD India it was a very good start. My suggestion would be to plan a 2 day event for GDD 2009 with tech talks on the first day and hands on sessions on the second day. Intel has been doing their Intel Developer Forum (IDF) along these lines in India since some time.
And by the way, we got a grey Google Tshirt and a 2GB USB pen drive to take away home ![]()
