In.com - India’s new portal

Web18, a Network18 venture recently launched In.com, with a punchline “India’s new homepage”. Though In.com is a relatively late enterant into the web portal space, but it has quicky created a name among the regular internet users.
In.com features separate sections for news, music, games, search, email and other sponsored television programs, and competes with other established old time players like Indiatimes.com, Sify.com and Rediff.com. At the moment the content is largely syndicated from other suppliers but with time, In.com would start generating good content in-house.
It seems there is some interesting history behind the purchase of this ultra short domain name. A quick look at the internet archive confirms that it was with squatters for a long time, and Web18 probably acquired it for a hefty sum.
