Yahoo SpotM - Social network for the teens and youth
Posted on | September 19, 2008 |
Yahoo India has launched a social network especially targetted at Indian teens and college going youth. Named as SpotM, it tries to make itself visible in the social networking space already dominated by Orkut and to some extent Facebook. SpotM’s target audience would be college goers and young teens planning to enter college.
Yahoo SpotM is currently under beta, and i dont have any invite yet. However beta testers have reported, in addition to usual social networking features, SpotM will also have SMS integration and facility to have private friends which are not visible to other friends.
It good to see Yahoo carefully considering the Indian market, and targeting the huge college going niche dominated by Orkut. From Yahoo 360, to Mash, to SpotM - Yahoo has tried several times to get its community services popular, but none have worked so far. And i think they should do something about their app URLs too. Typing something like http://in.spotm.yahoo.com feels so 1990’s ![]()

Ah cool! they do have .in registered. Let’s hope they advertise the shorter .in URL after its out of beta.
