When you register a domain and start a website, you’ll definately need a stable and reliable DNS hosting service provider. The easiest place to find a DNS hosting service is to ask your domain registrar or your web hosting provider. When i my personal blog, i signed up for DNS hosting service at my registrar, but soon i migrated most of the domains to EveryDNS.net due to high availability, easy to use web interface, it was Free to use and because i didnt want to be tied up with my registrar/web hosting service for no specific reason at all.
EveryDNS.net comes from the prople begind the hugely popular OpenDNS service. EveryDNS was started back in June 2001 by David Ulevitch and has stood strong since then. EveryDNS provides dns hosting for primary, secondary and dynamic DNS records. There are four geographically separate DNS servers that can be added as nameservers in domain name conrol panel.
- ns1.everydns.net - located in San Diego, U.S.
- ns2.everydns.net - located in San Jose, U.S.
- ns3.everydns.net - located in The Netherlands
- ns4.everydns.net - located in Washington D.C., U.S.
EveryDNS gives access to several different record types including A, AAAA, MX, CNAME, NS. Donators also get access to additional record types like TXT. A free account is allowed to host 20 domains, and 200 DNS records in total. However after a small donation, these restrictictions are removed.
Due to the popularity of the service, EveryDNS has suffered several DoS (Denial of Service) attacks in the past. But the team took several steps to mitigate the attacks and the service has been rock solid since the last attack i witnessed back in december 2006.
Overall, EveryDNS is one of the finest and reliable DNS hosting service providers around. If you are one of those people who dont want to go the shared hosting way, and want to set up everything on own, then EveryDNS can get you started.
